Wait, why does Tokyo Drift move?
Because of Han. He's a fan-favorite character introduced in Tokyo Drift (released 2006, third film) who dies at the end of that movie. Fast & Furious 6 (released 2013, sixth film) ends with a scene revealing the car crash that kills him — which means, chronologically, everything in Tokyo Drift has to happen after the events of Fast & Furious 6, not third in line. It's the single most-cited "wait, what order do I actually watch these in" question in the franchise.
Which order should you pick?
First time through, release order is still the easier ride — it's how the franchise actually escalates from street racing to international heists. Chronological order is really a bonus for rewatches once you already know who Han is and want the timeline to click into place properly.
